Buchanan House is one of the largest office buildings in Glasgow. The 10-storey scheme features 3,500sqm of Technal’s curtain walling, which has replaced its entire façade.
Architects Cooper Cromar designed a completely new envelope for this prominent 1960s building, which has transformed its appearance into a modern, high tech landmark and contributed to the rejuvenation of the city centre.
Three variations of Technal’s curtain walling suite carry large 3.6m wide spans of 28mm double glazing. Grid, Trame Horizontale and Trame Verticale curtain walling were suspended from a secondary steel structure, which wraps around the building’s original concrete frame. Unusually, the entire façade was installed from the roof downwards and mast climbers were used for the final phase to remove the need for scaffolding.
Technal also supplied top hung FXi casement windows, which were inserted into Trame Verticale on the gable ends of the building.
